Fabindia Presents Indigo Diaries

Brand:

May 24, 2016, Bangalore: Fabindia announces the launch of its signature summer offering: INDIGO DIARIES. Covering the complete Fabindia range from garments, home to a variety of accessories, this annual promotion is a much-awaited event not only at Fabindia stores but also in locations across India where it is created by the craftspeople.

A part of the textile history of many great civilizations including India, Indigo is the dye stuff of legends - a dye like no other in the world. What makes Indigo Diaries unique is that Fabindia continues to work with the authentic, centuries old dyeing process creating sustainable livelihood for the artisans linked to this craft.

Highlighting striking intensities of blue, the 2016 range covers both Indian and western wear - kurtas, tunics, skirts, tops, pants palazzos, dresses, sarees, dupattas, stoles, shirts and kurtas for men and an interesting collection for kids. The Home offering includes bed and table linen and floor covering.

Talking about the inspiration for the offering, Anuradha Kumra - Creative Head, Women and Kids said "This season’s Indigo offering is inspired by the unique architecture of ORCHCHA in Madhya Pradesh. The beautiful frescoes and jaalis of this historical site, established in the 16th century, have informed and inspired the original design development that is the hallmark of this range.”

Extending from techniques that include bold block prints, dabbu and ajrakh to clamp dyes, tie and dye, kalamkari and shibori, this year’s collection covers a dramatic new take on the traditional and contemporary offering. The design language also showcases colour blocking and engineered placements along with exciting new motifs and silhouettes. Special colour washes on block printed and solid indigo in a variety of fabrics have been used to create a new aesthetic.

Beautiful surfaces have been created using “cracked “ batik effects with dabbu and the collection also showcases new interpretations of Ajrakh and applique from western Rajasthan.

Creation of sustainable livelihoods is an integral part of Fabindia’s mandate. It encourages the artisans to work out of spaces where the craft based work has traditionally been undertaken. Fabindia focuses on and invests in providing training, design inputs in terms of raw material, quality workshops, key trends etc. to bring contemporary craft based products to today’s urban consumer.
